Preferred configuration (Recommended)
This is a description of today's common configurations used to access the internet.
Using this hardware and software, you will be able to enjoy full use of the
internet.
Typical hardware and software capabilities:
Using a Web browser like Netscape or Internet Explorer, enjoy World Wide
Web sites on the Internet including resources at local libraries as well
as information about Wood County government, businesses, and residents from
the WCNet. |
Transfer files to and from other locations |
Send and receive electronic mail. |
Chat with people locally and around the world |
Write and read messages on local and international newsgroups |
Create a personal World Wide Web home page |
See other people in "real-time" using video software |
Systems
IBM PC
Compatible Pentium, AMD, or other systems (the faster the better)

At least 100mb of free space on a hard disk drive for Internet software
and mail

Microsoft Windows 95, 98, NT, or 2000 recommended, with at least 32
megs of memory and 4x cdrom (Windows 3.1 and 3.11 are no longer supported,
but will work)

3Com/US Robotics or compatible 56K modem V.90 capable (28.8K and 14.4K
modems are also supported). Please note that if you have a Rockwell-based
modem or an LT Winmodem, you may experience some problems connecting.

Netscape or Internet Explorer World Wide Web browser, and other software
including Eudora or Outlook for e-mail

Macintosh II or better. Preferred systems run at 33MHz or faster

or MNP5 compatible

Minimum Configurations
These are the lowest-cost computers that can connect to, and use, the WCNet
system. These systems are not capable of quality connections to the internet,
and will not be able to provide the type of internet experience that a properly
powered computer can offer.
With a system like one of these a subscriber will be able to do these things:
Use Lynx to browse through World Wide Web sites, including resources
at local libraries, as well as information about Wood County government,
businesses and residents from the WCNet World Wide Web site. Many locations
may not support this type any more, and Lynx will only show the text content
of these sites, no graphics |
Write and read messages on local and international newsgroups |
Send and receive electronic mail with a personal mailbox |
Chat with people locally and around the world with Internet
